Ribes was one of the most talented Limoges masters of the period. He not only han own decorating studio, but also manually painted items from other Limoges manufactories.
Leclair started as a small porcelain workshop of Roger Leclair. In 1952, in Limoges, he built a large factory, where there was not only a porcelain factory, but also many decorators' studios. The Leclair manufactory still exists today, producing high quality products.
Limoges, French municipality, has been known for its decorative arts since the Middle Ages. From the beginning of the 19th century, when a kaolin mine was opened nearby, Limoges became one of the world centers for the production of porcelain and even competed with the royal manufacture of Sévres. The municipality is home to many factories, studios and shops specializing in porcelain.
The signatures on our vase indicate the authorship of the master Ribes and the handiwork at the time of its creation.
Mark "L E C Limoges France" belonged to the Leclair manufactory and was used from 1949 to 1954.
