Silverplated teapot and sugar bowl with walnut inlays.

French mastered the technique of silverplating almost half a century later than the British. In 1819, inventors Maillot and Chorier created an alloy of 25% nickel, 50% copper and 25% zinc - melchior - which was to be used as the base metal for silverplating. The very first French silverplate manufacturer was Gombault.

Considering the venerable age of the lot, its condition can be evaluated as excellent.
