This brass panel in a wooden frame was cast using the embossing technique.

Casting is perhaps the oldest technique for working with metals: bronze casting is at least 12 thousand years old. The dawn of artistic bronze casting in Europe is considered the Baroque period, when they learned to create complex and sophisticated forms. One of the key elements of the process is the preparation of the mold into which the product will be cast. It can be made of wood, ivory or plaster.

Embossing is a type of artistic metalworking where an image is embossed on a relief plate. Metal plates made of brass, copper, aluminum, or steel with special tools - stamping and punching hammer - are given the desired relief, on which the master works further. The final stage is decorative finishing.

Considering the venerable age, the condition of the lot can be assessed as excellent.
