Decorative Pitcher "Jolly Drake"

France, mid XX century, faience, mark Saint-Clément.

The jug is made with barbotin technique with the use of polychrome painting and glaze.

The Saint-Clément faience manufactory was founded in 1758. It was famous for its elite products and even served as a supplier to the court of Queen Marie Antoinette. So it is not surprising that Saint-Clément gathered talented people around itself: for example, in the late 19th - early 20th centuries the famous Emile Galle, following his father, came to the manufactory as a decorator. Saint-Clément exists to this day, having teamed up with the Lunéville earthenware manufactory, preserving the proven traditions of production.

The mark on the decorative jug "Jolly Drake" was used by Saint-Clément in the 1960s.

Confirmed by attribution by a French auction house.
